How Effective Is EFT In Recovering From Narcissistic Abuse?

This blog is about how to use EFT to recover from narcissistic abuse.

I am an Advanced EFT and a Matrix Reimprinting practitioner and have been successfully using those modalities to support my clients to recover from the impact of narcissistic abuse.

What is EFT?

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. And it uses the meridian energy system in our body.

For those who are not familiar with EFT, it is a brief intervention combining elements of exposure, cognitive therapy and somatic stimulation of acupressure points on the face and body by gently tapping on them. It was founded by Gary Graig; a Stanford Engineer and student of Dr. Roger Callahan in 1995.

Key Principles Behind EFT

Tapping on the energy meridian points sends signals to a part of the brain called the amygdala to calm down, relax, and relieve the fight or flight response.

One of the most special things about EFT tapping is that it combines cognitive reframing/restructuring techniques and exposure therapy techniques with all of the above. It is a way to address well-being with a whole-person approach. It helps you release trapped trauma from the body and reframe negative beliefs about yourself.

Clinical Research:

There are many recognized types of research to back up the effectiveness of EFT in treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, autoimmune diseases, weight loss, food cravings, and clearing self-doubt and negative beliefs. (Ref. The Journal of Evidence Based Integrative Medicine (Volume 24 1-12), European Journal of Integrative Medicine (Volume 32, December 2019), Dr. Peta Stapleton)

How Does It Work?:

With tapping, we verbally and energetically tune in to an issue, emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual - and tap on several different acupoints on the body whilst repeating a reminder phrase about the issue. This then reduces the fight or flight signal from the brain and results in emotional and cognitive shifts.

Like acupuncture, tapping work relies on scientific knowledge of the mind-body connection, and designated tapping points have specific uses or effects. This is why you will notice that different tapping sequences will prompt you to engage with different parts of the body, such as your head or hand. However, with EFT tapping, the points are stimulated by tapping on them with the tips of your fingers instead of the use of needles. EFT has 0 side effects!

Using EFT for Narcissistic Abuse Recovery:

Often survivors of narcissistic abuse struggle with chronic self-doubt, anger, depression, anxiety, PTSD, brain fog, exhaustion, eating disorders, and many other expressions of trauma. The use of EFT to clear these symptoms out is gentle and simple. You can use it any time with immediate results. The best thing is that you can use it on young children to help them regulate. Another advantage of using EFT is that you can do surrogate tapping. For example, if your children are with the other parent, you can tap on them energetically even when they are not physically with you. How amazing is that? You no longer have to feel helpless when your children are with the other parent and you can't reach out to them.

I have shared a video of how to use EFT tapping. Why don't you give this a go and let me know how it went?

Key Benefits of EFT Tapping:

  • It's safe. No re-traumatising.
  • It's simple. You can practice it anytime.
  • It's ok to forget tapping points and the sequence. It still works.
  • You can experience benefits immediately.
  • You can teach children how to do it.
  • You can use it on younger children, even babies!
  • You won't just talk until you are blue in the face. You will release what's been trapped in the body.
  • You don't need to be articulate to work with it. You can do silent tapping if you like.
  • Cognitive and emotional shift is immediate.
  • EFT improves your immune system.
  • When combined EFT with Matrix Reimprinting, it helps you re-engineer your most painful memories and beliefs into positive beliefs.

I hope this blog helps.

Keep doing the wonderful job you are doing with your children. Your deeper relationship with your children will help them thrive despite the co-parenting challenges.
